Square One

So things still have not gotten back to where I want them. No matter how much I try, I can’t seem to keep up with the “less”. Less blogging. Less updates to the FB page. No separate IG or Twitter. As it turns out, less is not always more. And yet, adding more back onto my plate is simply not practical. So I had to sit down and really ask myself, why isn’t this working? I am still passionate about The Magical Mommy. I am not ready to give up on this passion-project. Not by a long shot. But if I am honest with myself, there are aspects about this business I have cultivated that no longer sparkle the way they once did. Different Home, Different Life Remember when I did my mini-series on Clear the Clutter, Free the Soul? I realized that I needed to apply some of those principles […]

Courge under Chaos

…I know, I know… In my last post I said I was taking a vacation. As you can tell, that two week break turned into a longer, two month hiatus. While it wasn’t planned that way, it was definitely needed. So much has happened in the past two months that I scarcely know where to begin to explain it all. It feels as though an entire year has passed in the span of eight weeks. The Chaos First, my family and I came home to Texas to visit family and look at houses. My husband and I had decided to buy a house in Texas and pay on it while he finishes his time with the military — which, he still has a good nine years to go, so we are planning far future. We ended up finding the perfect house for us and under our price budget, too! Being back […]

Mood: Vacation

You know those days where you just want to say fuck it and walk away? That has been my mood all month long. It’s exhausting, y’all. Needless to say, there has been a lot of binge-watching the past week because of these low moods. The drive to do anything just wasn’t there. I’ve also noticed a spike in my junk food eating habits this month too. Oops. But you know what? Too much hustling leaves you drained and can take the fun out of work. And when work is not fun, it feels forced and makes us a little resentful toward something that we used to love. Naturally, when there is too much resentment toward something we will eventually quit and walk away for good. Sometimes, a vacation (or staycation!) from work is what our business needs in order to grow. And that is what I’ll be doing. The Magical Mommy […]

Working Mom Magic: The Magical Mommy

Working from home is a juggling act. It’s hard trying work while the kids are fighting or the baby is not napping because of teething pains or the house is dirty and therefore distracting…it can be hard to learn how to balance work, self and family. After all, unlike a traditional job you are not leaving the house. Often, the “office” is the kitchen table or the couch and that can make creating boundaries between home and work difficult. Instead of a boss and co-workers you have your spouse and children. So how do you make it work? Work Smarter, Not Harder For The Magical Mommy, I have a lot to juggle. Every week I offer a free reading (the weekly forecast every Monday), I have a blog post, a newsletter and I maintain social media accounts — all of this, of course, is on top of creating Mommy Mantras […]

Working Mom Magic: Moon & Mirth Tarot

Today I have a guest blogger! My very first one! Hali from Moon & Mirth Tarot is here to talk about how she manages being a mom, running a business from home AND working outside the home. It IS possible, y’all. Trust. Organized Chaos As a work-at-home-mom, I do keep an agenda and work calendar. However, I wouldn’t call my day-to-day life “structured” (I kind of spit out my coffee as I wrote that). I would describe my life as organized chaos. A bit of an oxymoron I know, but hear me out. I keep a checklist of what I want to accomplish daily, weekly, and monthly. I love making lists, and truthfully- writing things down is the only way I will remember, execute, and accomplish my to-do’s. Do I succeed every time? NOPE. Let’s face it, I don’t have 8 hours of solitude to write ten blog posts. I get an […]

Spread some love

So I missed this week of blogging. If you follow me regularly, you know that I typically blog every Tuesday. What you may not know is that I often strive to schedule my blogs about a week or two in advance because — kids and life. Well, in the midst of moving over the holiday weekend, I forgot to finish and schedule my post for this past Tuesday. I meant to finish and post on Wednesday, but I’m physically drained from the move and emotionally drained from the events transpiring across the country this week — Alton Sterling. Philandro Castile. Dallas. So rather than post about what I wanted to this week — how I work from home and still keep the kids fed and the house clean — I am taking this week off from blogging, and I hope you understand. Next week, I will have a guest post […]

Understanding Tarot: The Devil

A lot of times, people approaching me about a tarot reading with one major concern: what if a scary card pops up? I want a tarot reading, but I’m afraid that bad cards will show up in my reading. Usually, what they mean by bad or scary cards are the cards associated with negative connotations. Cards like Death, The Tower or The Devil. But you know what? These are some of my favorite cards in the deck. These cards are in-your-face. And because of their  usual negative connotations, they tend to make you sit up straight and listen to the message they’re revealing. So let’s take a minute to discover and understand one of tarot’s scary cards. The Devil Fire. Hell. Eternal pain and torture. There are a lot of terrible, fearful things that come to mind when we think of the devil, especially if you are Christian or were brought up in […]

Full Moon Reading

Because I have a new deck and because other blog posts are not as fleshed out/ready to publish as I’d like them to be… I’m giving you a free full moon reading. This is something I am starting to do with my newsletter subscribers each month, but wanted to share here so you can get a glimpse of what to expect in my newsletter. And though the full moon was technically the full moon was yesterday, we’re moms. We know that sometimes we don’t get to do magical, mystical things at the best time. Still. One day after the full moon is a lot better than say…doing a full moon reading during the new moon. 😉 Strawberry Moon in Sagittarius This month’s full moon is known as the Strawberry Moon. According to Farmer’s Almanac, it’s named this because of the short strawberry picking season. Though they also mention that in Europe, it’s […]

Selfish Mommy, Good Mommy

Stay-at-home-moms know that being a SAHM is a full time, never-ending type of job. You’re working 24/7 with no holidays and no overtime pay. In fact, there’s no pay at all (unless you count slobbery baby kisses, in which case I’m a MF millionaire). Personally, I really love that I have the opportunity to be a SAHM. Do my kids drive me crazy? At least twenty times a day. Do I sometimes wish I left for work each morning? Yes. Actually, I think about this a lot most days. While I may enjoy being a SAHM and I feel blessed to have the opportunity to stay home with my children, I do also want something for me. Something outside of motherhood that allows me to reclaim some of my independence, especially on those harrowing days when being a housewife and SAHM leaves me feeling like I am trapped. For my part, […]

Passion, Patience & Practicality

There’s been a running theme in my personal tarot journaling the past couple of weeks — patience. And it’s not necessarily patience with my kids or my husband, but patience here with The Magical Mommy. I’m discovering that it’s a struggle to patient with myself and my and my blog/business. My passion and drive are so high that my excitement with what can be start to frustrate me with what is. Though I’ve clearly defined a five-year plan for myself, it doesn’t stop me from wanting to do all of the things right now or wanting to see the results of five years of work now. It’s silly, and not at all practical, I know. But I’m a Capricorn, so I’m prone to ambitious, lofty goals, especially for myself. So the question that I have to ask myself is: How can I be more patient with myself in my business? Naturally, I turn to the […]
